Description:

The Shure Beta 87A is a premium quality supercardioid hand-held electret condenser vocal microphone with exceptionally smooth frequency response and high sound pressure level capability. Used for professional sound reinforcement, broadcasting, and studio recording applications, the Beta 87A combines superb performance with the ruggedness needed for touring and field production. The Beta 87A features a controlled low-frequency roll-off that compensates for proximity effect and prevents the boomy sound often associated with close pick-up. The characteristic Shure presence rise brightens the upper midrange. The tight supercardioid pattern, with null points at approximately 125 degrees, provides maximum isolation from other vocalists or instruments while offering minimal off-axis coloration. The Beta 87A operates on phantom power.

Features:
  • Smooth Frequency Response with Gradual Presence Rise

  • Highly Consistent Supercardioid Polar Pattern

  • Electronic Low-Frequency Roll-Off Compensates for Proximity Effect

  • Wide Dynamic Range (117 dB) and Low Distortion Characteristics

  • Very Low Susceptibility to RFI and Electromagnetic Hum

5Wonderful for spoken word and podcasting...  Oct 01, 2008
After using countless large diaphragm condenser mics over the years, I've settled on the Beta 87a and the Beta 58a for my vocal work.

I've produced podcasts, spoken word pieces and voiceovers with both of these microphones with superb results with hardly any EQ needed. (You can listen to samples at blog.visitronix.com)

Neither one of these mics will let you down. I highly recommend them!

5Crisp & Punchy...  Jan 10, 2008
Simply put, these mics have incredible punch and clarity. I love the SM-58 and the Beta 58, but this mic bests them by a long shot. They hand-hold comfortably, and don't "swallow" your face when used in a boom stand. The pickup pattern is VERY tight, so you don't want to stray too far from the element when you're singing. Also, make sure your mixing board has phantom power, or else you'll have to buy a phantom power unit. Highly recommended.

5Lives up to hype  Apr 21, 2007
Every positive comment about this microphone is right on. I finally have found a mic that captures every resonance, and clarity. I have used it to record and perform live. This is an amazing tech. that delivers real results. I bought it based on reviews without trying it out first, and it was the best mic purchase I have ever made. This mic has a quality that far exceeds the initial investment.

5The best  Oct 29, 2005
I bought this mic in a Hermes Music Store in Mcallen Tx, and its the best of mic's. It takes your voice clarity and in long distance. It worth every peny.
