5I wish there were 6 stars  Jul 17, 2008
This book is the book from which all the others have flowered over the last 2 generations. The book you take on a desert Island. I bought originally at $3.50. Now it is priceless.
Sincerely,

5are you feeling out of control ?  Jun 04, 2008
I was never a drum major. I began playing drums long after school so this book was a bit difficult to get into. It is basically a bunch elaborated rudiments and rudiment variations. Pages of them. I was bored and discouraged because the book is nothing but exercises and it is recommended that one play each exercise 20 times before moving on...

Practice with a capital P.

The only reason i continued with this book is because my instructor assured me that it was worth it. He opined that all the major players must have done these exercises....and then he likened it to the Bible. He was right. My hands are much faster and far more precise than they ever could have been without this book.

if you have the patience to COMMIT yourself to these exercises, you will be nice with the hands. period.

5A must have for all drummer's libraries  May 01, 2008
This is one of two most important books for any drummer's library, the other being Syncopation by Ted Reed. Stick Control is a great book to develop ideal technique for orchestral style or any style of music on the drum set.
I will admit, first glance this book looks very boring; the first few pages are plane 8th notes with different right and left stickings. As you read on and play through the book you will quickly see the depth behind the practice exercises.
I highly recommend Stick Control to anyone from advanced players looking to tighten up on speed and technique, to beginners who are looking to develop the basics to build on. However, it is important to note that this book does not explain music and the proper technique of holding the sticks or playing the instrument. A beginner's book providing that information would be beneficial to start with first.
